Center for Sustainable Energy is a consultant and subcontractor for Massachusetts’ Ride Clean Mass program, offering the nation’s first statewide electric vehicle incentives exclusively for vehicle-for-hire drivers, such as Uber, Lyft and taxi drivers.
Vehicle-for-hire drivers are a priority for electrification because they typically travel thousands of miles more each year than other passenger vehicle drivers, offering significant improvements to air quality and public health. Both transportation network company drivers and taxi drivers who rent or purchase a new or used electric vehicle may be eligible for incentives.
Ride Clean Mass is a pilot program with about $5.3 million in rebate funding from the Massachusetts Climate Protection and Mitigation Expendable Trust. It will be open for applications as long as funding is available through 2025, offering about 800-2,100 incentives.
CSE is responsible for application verification, general program support, data collection, program reporting, and survey creation and implementation. Boston-based Green Energy Consumer Alliance conducts driver outreach and education. The nonprofit organization CALSTART is the program’s primary contractor.
